Hyundai CUV to Be Called Veracruz

The new CUV will be the first Hyundai with a 6-speed automatic transmission.

TRAVERSE CITY, MI – Hyundai Motor Co. Ltd.’s upcoming large cross/utility vehicle finally has a name: the Veracruz.

John Krafcik, vice president-strategic planning and product development for Hyundai Motor America, reveals the new moniker at the Management Briefing Seminars here, adding the new CUV will be the first vehicle from Hyundai to offer a 6-speed automatic transmission.

The Veracruz will come with a 3.8L V-6 engine and a standard third-row seat, Krafcik says. It will be larger than a Honda Pilot and offer more cargo room than a Mercedes GL, he adds.

The Veracruz will make its public debut at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit in January.

It will be built in South Korea and is expected to hit the U.S. market in first-quarter 2007.
