South Korean auto maker Kia Motors Corp. says in reports that it will begin knock-down assembly of the Rio compact car in Ecuador later this year. Some 7,000 units of the compact car, in addition to current production of the Sportage compact sport/utility vehicle, brings Kia’s production in Ecuador to 10,000 units annually. A local firm, AYMESA, will reassemble the vehicles beginning in December. The announcement coincided with the visit to South Korea of Ecuadorian President Gustavo Noboa.
