Chicago Auto ShowCHICAGO – Eager to place its Galant against a growing number of affordable midsize sport sedans, Mitsubishi Motors North America Inc. announces it will begin selling the ’07 Galant Ralliart this summer.

The Galant’s upgrade to sporty Ralliart specification includes numerous bodywork and exterior revisions, as well as a revised 3.8L SOHC V-6 that develops 258 hp (a 28-hp hike over the standard Galant V-6 output) and 258 lb.-ft. (350 Nm), an 8 lb.-ft. (11 Nm) increase.

The only available transmission is a 5-speed automatic.

“We designed it to be a complete sport-sedan package,” says Wayne Killen, MMNA vice-president-marketing.

He says the auto maker presaged the ’07 production car with a Galant Ralliart concept at the 2004 Specialty Equipment Market Assn. (SEMA) show. Ralliart is the motorsports division of parent Mitsubishi Motors Corp.

Killen says the new Galant Ralliart is comprehensively equipped, including a Sirius-capable satellite radio as standard equipment. The only option is a navigation system.

Mitsubishi declines to reveal pricing for the ’07 Galant Ralliart just yet, but Killen says it will be priced less than competitors from Nissan North America Inc. and American Honda Motor Co. Inc.
