Audi AG next year reportedly will increase the displacement of its highly regarded 3.3L DOHC V-8 turbodiesel. More importantly, the engine and the auto maker’s upcoming new range of modular vee turbodiesel engines will employ blocks made of compacted graphite iron (CGI), a lighter-weight alternative to cast iron that is more robust than aluminum.
