CHICAGO –Motor Co. Ltd. says it will maintain a presence at February’s Chicago Auto Show after all, but is sticking with its decision to pull out of the Detroit auto show in January.
“Given the extraordinary economic and industry climate, all well-managed companies have a fiduciary responsibility to review strategies that demand decisions that are often difficult and even controversial,” Alan J. Buddendeck, vice president-communications for, says late Wednesday evening.
"Nissan North America decided to withdraw from both the Chicago and Detroit shows, (but) after a careful review of this decision with our North Central Region management and our Chicago dealers, we've found a way to maintain a presence at the Chicago show through our dealers,” Buddendeck says.
“The decision outlined for Chicago doesn't affect our decision to withdraw from the 2009 North American International Auto Show (in Detroit).”
Buddendeck says the exhibition space already was paid for by Nissan, so the auto maker will supply the cars and dealers will provide staff for the Chicago show.
He says it was important to be at the Chicago show since it caters to consumers, while Detroit is more of a show for the industry.
