VIENNA – Adam Opel GmbH will unveil a concept version of its upcoming new Astra 3-door hatchback at the Paris auto show Sept. 30.

Dubbed the Opel GTC Paris, the concept car measures 175.6 ins. (446.0 cm) in overall length.

The chassis of the GTC Paris has a special design, with an extra-wide stance. It features an updated version of the auto maker’s FlexRide adaptive damping system, and at the rear is an Opel-exclusive compound crank/Watt’s link suspension.

The powertrain is a 4-cyl. 2.0L Turbo with direct injection. It is fitted with stop/start technology. The transmission is a 6-speed manual gearbox.

The 3-door hatchback will be the third body style for the new-generation Astra, following the 5-door hatchback that’s been in production in Poland and the U.K. since last year and the Sports Tourer wagon that also will bow in Paris.

Production of the 3-door will get under way at the General Motors Mfg. Poland Sp. z o.o. plant in Gliwice, Poland, in 2011.
