The Australian auto industry in 2006 saw its second-highest annual sales, although the market slipped 2.6% to 962,521 units from 2005’s record 988,269 deliveries.
Concern over the future of the local auto industry continues, as Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries figures show sales of domestically built vehicles slid 19.0% to 201,623 units. Conversely, sales of imports rose 2.9%, or 21,541 units, to 760,898.
