Paul Brubaker, U.S. Department of Transportation administrator, jokes that an autonomous-vehicle advocate who takes the stage on crutches, “must have been multi-tasking when he got that injury.”

Chris Urmson, robotics professor at Carnegie Mellon University, puts those fears to rest, explaining later that he suffered a sports injury.

General Motors Vice President Larry Burns says he always wondered how 50,000 people could lock their keys in their vehicles every month.

That's how many requests the concierge service receives to unlock vehicle doors.

But recently, Burns says, he locked himself out of his vehicle while playing chauffeur to his daughter. Fortunately, he had OnStar. “I would have paid a million dollars for it.”
