SAO PAULO – Volkswagen’s Brazilian subsidiary is trying to recapture the Iraqi market, where it sold 170,000 Passat sedans between 1983 and 1988, mostly as taxis.
More than half of the cars still are in circulation and are referred to locally as “Brazilis,” Arabic for Brazilian, says Wathiq Hindo, head of the Brazil-Iraq Chamber of Commerce.
