VIENNA – Volkswagen AG unveils its new Polo sedan for Russia at an event in Moscow.

The car is powered by a 105-hp 1.6L gasoline engine, mated to either a 5-speed manual transmission or Tiptronic 6-speed automatic.

The Polo sedan measures 172.6 ins. (438.4 cm) long, 66.9 ins. (169.9 cm) wide and 57.7 ins. (146.5 cm) high. Its wheelbase stretches 100.5 ins. (255.2 cm).

The new model will start at RR399,000 ($12,842) when it goes on sale in September.

“The new sedan extends Volkswagen’s range of vehicles and builds a bridge from our best-sellers in Russia, the Passat and the Jetta, to the small family-car segment,” Frank Wittemann, head of the Volkswagen brand at OOO Volkswagen Group Rus, says in a prepared statement.

Production already is under way on a completely new line at Volkswagen’s plant in Kaluga, Russia.

The facility also assembles the Skoda Fabia and Octavia and VW Tiguan from complete-knocked-down kits, plus several Audi, Skoda and VW models from semi-knocked-down kits.

Up to 10,000 Polo sedans will be manufactured this year, says Dietmar Korzekwa, head of Volkswagen Group Rus.

India is the second country slated to produce the car.
