X Prize to Offer $25 Million for Major MPG Boost

The X Prize Foundation reportedly is hashing out details for a $25 million reward for the first mass-produced vehicle that offers a revolutionary jump in fuel efficiency.

The Santa Monica, CA-based group, founded by aviation entrepreneur Peter Diamandis, sponsored a similar $10 million competition in 2004 for the first private group to launch a 3-person spaceship more than 60 miles (97 km) above the Earth twice in two weeks.
