The all-new luxury sedan is based on General Motors Corp.’s rear-drive Sigma platform. It has a longer wheelbase – 116.4 ins. (2,957 mm) vs. 112.2 ins. (2,850 mm) – than the front-drive Seville it replaces. However, it is slightly shorter, narrower and taller. At 3,921 lbs. (1,779 kg), the rear-drive V-8 edition weighs 70 lbs. (32 kg) less than the Seville. The STS is available in several drivetrain configurations, including a rear-drive version powered by a 3.6L V-6 along with rear- and all-wheel-drive variants propelled by a 4.6L Northstar V-8. A 5-speed automatic gearbox is standard on all models. The long list of technologically advanced features include 2-mode electronic suspension control, stability control, adaptive cruise control, adaptive remote start, keyless access system with push-button start, heated and ventilated seats, reconfigurable 4-color head-up display, heated steering wheel and automatic headlamp control that instantly changes from high to low beams in the face of oncoming vehicles. On the options list is an advanced audio system that incorporates 15-speaker Bose Corp. surroundsound, a 6-disc CD/DVD changer with MP3 capability, touch-screen navigation system, Bluetooth cell phone technology and Gen 6 OnStar with upgraded voice-recognition and digital/analog compatibility. XM satellite radio also is optional.
