SYDNEY – Australia’s New South Wales government places an order for 200 Toyota Prius gas/electric hybrid powered vehicles. The order, second only in size to that of New York City’s, is estimated to save state taxpayers A$550,000 ($303,270) in fuel costs over the next two years. Government officials say they hope the purchase encourages companies and private buyers to make their own commitments to environmental conservation.
