BMW Expands xDrive to Range-Topping 7-Series

BMW claims the addition of xDrive to the 7-Series line makes the models the most nimble AWD sedans in any segment.

BMW AG will add its xDrive all-wheel-drive system to the 750i and 750Li large sedans for the first time, growing the number of variants for the 7-Series to five for the ’10 model year.

Specifically tuned for the 7-Series, xDrive limits understeer by shifting up to 80% of torque to the rear wheels when needed, while maintaining stability, the German auto maker says.

For additional sure-footedness, the system can then apply a precise combination of throttle and individual rear-corner braking to maintain neutral handling in a corner regardless of roadway conditions, BMW says.

BMW claims the addition of xDrive to the 7-Series line makes the models the most nimble AWD sedans in any segment.

The auto maker previously announced the addition of a 760Li powered by V-12 engine to its top-of-the-range models for ’10, as well as an “M” sport package for every model in the series.
