Auto retailer CarMax Inc. completes a tax-free separation from former parent Circuit City Stores Inc. Circuit City Stores redeemed the outstanding shares of CarMax Group Common Stock and distributed shares of new CarMax Inc. common stock. One former share was redeemed in exchange for one share of the new stock. CarMax is now an independent, publicly traded company with the New York Stock Exchange symbol of KMX.
