Johnson Matthey's Continuous Regenerating Technology emission control devices effectively remove “virtually all of the diesel particulates” from diesel exhaust, says the company, including engines that use recently introduced low-sulfur diesel fuel. A proprietary platinum-based catalyst oxidizes NO to NO2 and uses the NO2 as an oxidant to remove soot trapped in the filter material.
