Chinese Auto Dealers Tour U.S. Auction

A Chinese Automobile Dealers Assn. delegation traveled to Hawaii for their first visit to a U.S. auto auction, Manheim's Aloha Auto Auction in Honolulu.

A Chinese Automobile Dealers Assn. delegation traveled to Hawaii for their first visit to a U.S. auto auction, Manheim's Aloha Auto Auction in Honolulu.

Thirteen members of the group, including Fan Ganping, vice president of Shanghai International Commodity Auction Co., Ltd. and Manheim's joint venture partner in China, observed an auction of consignments from Ford Credit, VW Credit, DaimlerChrysler, Hertz Rent A Car, Alamo Rent A Car and AmeriCredit.

The auction's general manager, Dewey Hess, conducted a tour of the facilities, discussed the U.S. auto auction process and answered questions about American auction practices, such as fee structures and the importance of reconditioning.

“As Manheim expands its operations into China, it is important to develop partnerships with the Chinese dealer industry,“ Hess says. “This visit by CADA was a great opportunity for us to begin to build those relationships.“

Manheim opened its first auction facility in China, the Manheim Guo Pai Auction in Shanghai. The state-of-the-art facility held its first sale on Sept. 20 and celebrated its official grand opening Nov. 29.
