About 625 hourly workers at Chrysler is St. Louis North minivan plant are on temporary layoff as that facility is converted to build the T300 full-size pickup beginning in August. Mininvan production moves to the St. Louis South plant, which currently is building the '96 minivans on one 8-hour shift a day (see related story p.61). it will slowly ramp up to two shifts. Serious production is not expected until late spring.
