Chrysler Group will be without a marketing chief, at least temporarily, with the departure of George Murphy.

Chrysler confirms the 51-year-old Murphy, who has been senior vice president-global brand marketing since 2001, is leaving the auto maker, effective June 1.

No replacement is named.

Murphy joined Chrysler after a 2-year stint at Ford Motor Co. and 11 years at General Electric.

“George has made a key contribution to our efforts to retool our brands – Chrysler, Jeep and Dodge,” says Steven Landry, executive vice president-North American sales, marketing, service and parts. “Most recently, he engineered a new identity for the Chrysler brand featuring a new theme line – Engineered Beautifully. This campaign shows that there is more behind the sheet metal and distinctive style of this brand.”

The new advertising campaign for the Chrysler brand debuted May 8.
