Cummins Inc. thinks the cooled EGR (exhaust gas recirculation) route is the way to go to meet future diesel emissions requirements — 2.5 g of NOx plus non-methane hydrocarbon. Cummins engineers say they have seen a 2% improvement in fuel economy, a reduction in NOx by 50% and a reduction in the time for unaided cold starts by 80% via the use of cooled EGR.
