The owner of one of the largest new-car dealerships in Kentucky is donating $2 million to address a leading automotive industry issue — the environment.

Tracy Farmer, owner of Farmer Automotive Group Inc., is providing the gift to the University of Kentucky to establish a research and educational center. It will assist public and private organizations in addressing environmental issues and developing solutions. The state of Kentucky is kicking in another $2 million for the new center.

Mr. Farmer operates Star Ford and Oxmoor Toyota in Louisville. He also owns Banner Ford in Atlanta and Port Charlotte (FL) Honda.

“What we do about the environment is the legacy we leave for our children,” he says.
