Due to rising Ram sales, Chrysler Group adds a third shift to its Warren, MI, truck plant, in the midst of preparations to launch the redesigned Dakota pickup and a new truck for alliance partner Mitsubishi Motors Corp.

Chrysler says the shift, which should boost employment by “a couple hundred” workers, could begin as soon as May. Warren currently employs 3,900 hourly workers. Chrysler began discussing a possible third shift in October 2002, but the lagging U.S. economy delayed the decision.
