DETROIT -- Fiat Auto SpA will idle 4,000 workers at its facilities in Italy for the first three days in January, reducing output by 1,800 units. The auto maker also has plans to cut 6,000 jobs at facilities outside of Italy. Fiat will launch production of its Palio compact car in China in 2002, with annual sales forecasted at 30,000 units.
