Ford Motor Co. this month launches an additional line at its Bridgend Engine Plant in Wales and adds 500 jobs, for a total of 2,000 workers.

The expansion is part of a $425 million investment, designed to result in 1 million units of engine capacity annually by 2010.

The new line on May 5 began producing 4.4L V-8 gasolilne engines for the next-generation Land Rover Discovery. The engine will show up in other Ford luxury vehicles built in Europe, as well.

The auto maker also builds 3.5L and 4.2L V-8s for Jaguar products at Bridgend. In addition, the plant builds a variety of Zetec inline 4-cyl. engines for the Ford Focus and Fiesta.
