Ford Motor Co. confirms it will produce the Lincoln MKT cross/utility vehicle, which will be built alongside its platform-mate, the ’09 Flex CUV, in Oakville, ON, Canada.

The Lincoln MKT, which will bow next year, was first shown in concept form at the 2008 North American International Auto Show in Detroit.

Ford says the production version will share many of the design cues of the concept, including a double-wing grille, distinctive bow wave and chamfered surface running parallel to the beltline.

“The Lincoln MKT reinforces our commitment to further expand America’s fastest-growing luxury brand, providing an all-new vehicle to the showroom that’s been crafted and honed for a new kind of customer,” Mark Fields, president-The Americas, says in a statement.

At launch, the 7-seat MKT will be available with a 3.7L normally aspirated V-6 engine, as well as an EcoBoost 3.5L V-6 engine that combines turbocharging and direct injection to produce 340 hp and 340 lb.-ft. (461 Nm) of torque.

Additional product details will be released closer to the MKT’s launch, Ford says.
