Motor Co. confirms a new Shelby-inspired Mustang is in the works and should arrive at dealerships later this year.
The car will be the second Mustang aimed at the retail market orchestrated by racing legend Carroll Shelby and, following the recently released 500-hp Shelby Mustang GT-500.
Details of the new Shelby ’Stang will be announced next week on fordboldmoves.com, a Ford spokesman says.
Fordboldmoves.com features an ongoing documentary revealing the internal workings of the auto maker as it progresses through its North American Way Forward restructuring plan.
The spokesman tells Ward’s the auto maker is unveiling details of the new Shelby Mustang on the website because Ford is “trying to be a little innovative with the documentary.”
Indeed, previous episodes have portrayed brutal honesty from Ford executives, such as one installment in which Mark Fields, Ford’s president-The Americas, says the auto maker has to “rip out the B.S. and political posturing and have a constructive conflict.”
While the spokesman declines to reveal details on the upcoming Shelby Mustang, there has been speculation that the new car could be a derivative of the Shelby GT-H, the so-called “Rent-A-Racer” offered for rental only by Hertz Corp.
