Ford Oz to Showcase Falcon XR Sedans, Ute at Sydney

Ford says the limited-edition “XR by Craig Lowndes” Falcon Ute offers almost A$6,000 in additional equipment for A$1,000 above the recommended retail price of the standard XR Ute.

Ford Motor Co. of Australia Ltd. says it will debut a restyled Falcon XR sedan lineup and a limited-edition Falcon XR Ute at this month’s Australian International Motor Show.

The XR sedan receives a new body kit and revised exterior mirror treatment, along with an alloy wheel design on premium models – the XR6 6-speed automatic, XR6 Turbo and XR8.

The body kit features a modified front bumper with new mini rockers on each side, all-new side rockers and new insert in the rear bumper valance, all of which have been treated with an accent color paint finish.

Prices for the restyled cars, due to go on sale in mid-November, remain unchanged from the outgoing models. The auto maker is due to release an all-new Falcon early next year.

The premium XR models receive a revised 5-spoke 18-in. alloy wheel with a shadow chrome paint finish to complement the new body kit. The wheels are available as an option on the XR6 6-speed manual and 4-speed automatic models.

“The new-look Falcon XR sedan is the most significant upgrade to the exterior design of the performance XR models since (the) BF Falcon was introduced,” says Mark Winslow, Ford Australia vice president-marketing and sales.

The limited-edition “XR by Craig Lowndes” Falcon Ute is available in XR6, XR6 Turbo and XR8 Styleside Box models, including an XR6 with an optional E-Gas dedicated liquefied petroleum gas engine.

Lowndes recently was voted one of the 10 greatest Australian race-car drivers by a panel of drivers, journalists and motor sports insiders.

Slated to go on sale in mid-October, the Ute offers almost A$6,000 ($5,318) in additional equipment for A$1,000 ($886) above the recommended retail price of the standard XR Ute, Ford says.

Extra features include 18-in. alloy wheels, 1-piece hard tonneau cover with integrated power bulge and rear spoiler, Momo steering wheel, prestige audio system with 6-disc in-dash CD player and an iPod/MP3 audio player input connection.

Only 650 of the limited-edition Utes will be built.
