Ford Motor Co. pulls the sheet off its Focus Coupe-Cabriolet today at the Geneva auto show, expanding the Focus lineup in Europe to seven models.

Ford is bringing the vehicle to market less than two years after its concept version, the Vignale, was shown at the 2004 Paris auto show. (See related story: Vignale May Signal Future Focus Flare)

The Focus Coupe-Cabriolet is set to go into production this summer and is a joint development of Ford of Europe and Italian design house Pininfarina SpA, which will build the car at two plants in suburban Turin using parts supplied by Focus' lead manufacturing facility in Saarlouis, Germany.

“We were delighted with the reaction to the Focus Vignale Concept and were determined to progress it to volume production,” Gunnar Herrmann, vehicle line director for Focus, says in a statement.

Herrmann says Ford wanted to stay true to the design of the well-received Vignale.

While resembling the rest of the Focus family, the Coupe-Cabriolet has a gently arched 2-piece roof, which retracts at the push of a button, Ford says.

The exterior paint color of the Geneva vehicle is a metallic called “Luna,” and chrome detailing provides further sparkle on the Coupe-Cabriolet's sides and rear areas.

Ford says it has used premium materials on the interior, such as “Camel” leather seating. A dark “Iris”-colored instrument panel provides a 2-tone look.

Boasting four full seats, Ford says the vehicle can accommodate more than 17.7 cu.-ft. (500 L) in its luggage compartment.

Three engines will be offered: a 1.6L gasoline mill making 99 hp, a 2L gasoline engine making 143 hp and a 2L turbodiesel making 134 hp.

While full details will not be divulged until the Coupe-Cabriolet's late-summer launch, Ford promises standard air conditioning, multiple airbags, in-car entertainment options and a variety of active and passive safety features.

Buyers also will be able to use options and accessories to personalize their car.

The Focus has been one of the best-selling models in Europe, with deliveries totaling 442,000 units last year.
