Declaring it plans to go after market share in the critical light truck market, General Motors Corp. slaps new discounts on some of its most popular vehicles in a special Memorial Day sales promotion. The incentives, which also were seen as a way to reduce still-bloated inventories, cover a broad range of vehicles, but include popular trucks and sport/utility vehicles (SUVs) such as the Chevy S-10, Tahoe and Suburban and GMC Sonoma, Yukon and Yukon XL. A $1,000 discount was available in the western U.S. on Tahoe, Suburban, Yukon and Yukon XL. Rebates of $1,500 on many full-size pickups also were available to western U.S. residents. And in some regions, rebates of $500 to $1,250 were available on most midsize cars, some large cars and minivans. Nationwide, the automaker was offering $2,500 rebates on all Chevy S-10 and GMC Sonoma small pickups.
