Honda Motor Co. Ltd. says it will open another 100 new-car dealerships across China in the next five years.
The auto maker will add about 80 points in cities and coastal areas before the end of this year to meet strong demand for the Accord and City models. It currently has 680 Honda dealers in the country.
Honda expects sales to increase about 16% to 550,000 units this year.
The auto maker says it is at full production capacity at its plants in China, as vehicle sales soar due to government stimulus measures designed to minimize the effects of the global economic crisis.
Honda’s joint venture, Dongfeng Honda Automobile Co. Ltd., began building the new Spirior at its plant in Wuhan, Hubei province, in August.
To accommodate the Spirior in its lineup, Dongfeng Honda expanded the plant’s annual production capacity from 120,000 units to 200,000.
This brings Honda's total annual production capacity in China to 610,000 units, including 360,000 at Guangqi Honda Automobile Co. Ltd. and 50,000 at Honda Automobile (China) Co. Ltd., which produces vehicles exclusively for export.
