DETROIT – Honda Motor Co. Ltd. unveils the concept versions of its next-generation Civic at the North American International Auto Show here, which goes on sale in the spring.

The Civic coupe and sedan both are shown, with subtle changes to the current Civic. Honda will retail gasoline-, hybrid-electric- and natural-gas-powered versions.

The latter will be sold nationwide this time, compared with the select group of states where the current Civic GX is made available.

Honda also reveals that the next-gen Civic Hybrid will use a lithium-ion battery.

Details of the production Civic are scarce, but American Honda Motor Co. Inc.'s John Mendel says to expect a 40 mpg (6 L/100 km) rating for the standard gas-powered model.
