Honda says it will invest $50 million to add 75,000 sq.-ft. (6,968 sq.-m) to its Russells Point, OH, transmission facility.
The expansion adds capacity for high-pressure die casting of aluminum transmission cases, supporting a third transmission assembly line currently under construction, Honda says today.
“The new assembly line announced earlier, part of a 200,000-sq.-ft. (18,581-sq.-m) plant expansion, will increase the plant’s capabilities to manufacture Honda’s latest transmission technologies,” the auto maker says.
Some 100 jobs will be added at Russells Point by 2013, due to the new casting operation and the third assembly line.
Part of the casting expansion is a new melting furnace, which Plant Manager Gary Hand says will improve efficiencies at Russells Point by cutting its waste and energy use.
Honda says it has invested more than $400 million in projects under way in Ohio, and more than $8 billion in the state since 1979, when it began motorcycle production in Marysville.
