VIENNA – Honda Motor Co. Ltd. is backing out of the Frankfurt auto show held in September amid a global downturn in sales.
“Due to the unprecedented market downturn, Honda has decided not to participate in the Frankfurt motor show this year,” the auto maker says in a prepared statement.
Earlier this year, Japanese auto makers Daihatsu Motor Co. Ltd., Mitsubishi Motors Corp. and Nissan Motor Co. Ltd. announced they would not participate in the German auto show.
Nissan has dropped out of some U.S. shows, as well, including the 2009 and 2010 North American International Auto Show in Detroit.
Additionally, a number of U.S. and European auto makers have said they will not be present at this year’s Tokyo auto show, which opens in October, citing the battered global economy.
