International Truck and Engine Corp. will produce the new 6.4L Power Stroke diesel engine that will power the ’08 Ford F-Series Super Duty pickup.

The new engine, which touts an increase in displacement from the Super Duty’s current 6L diesel V-8, features piezo-electric injectors, which International says allows for “ultra-precise timing for quietness and better emissions.”

“We are proud to build on our tradition and our relationship with Ford over the past 24 years,” says Jack Allen, president of the engine group for International. “The Power Stroke diesel has given birth to the popularity of diesel engines in North America and helped the heavy-duty pickup and chassis truck market to achieve rapid growth.”

The new diesel will be produced at International’s manufacturing facilities in Indianapolis and Huntsville, AL, which received a combined $100 million in upgrades in preparation for the new mill.

The ’08 Ford F-Series Super Duty pickup is slated to go on sale early next year.
