Jaguar Cars plans to capture the attention of younger buyers when it unleashes the ’05 X-Type Sport model in November.
The Sport model, spruced up with exterior styling and interior enhancements, was unveiled at the Birmingham International Motor Show earlier this week. It will be offered for sale in the U.S. and other markets, and will go after buyers drawn to performance-oriented body kits.

The package is available only on cars equipped with the 3L V-6 engine.
Jaguar currently offers a comparatively subtle sport package, which comprises 8% of the brand’s X-Type sales mix. It does not reveal sales projections for the ’05 Sport.
While the average age of X-Type buyers is 52, the target for the X-Type is between 25 and 35, a spokeswoman says, and a flashy Sport version is essential to drawing in the younger set.
“We want to offer a vehicle that would have a greater appeal to that segment,” she says.
Changes for ’05’s Sport include a new front lower spoiler, black mesh grille, lowered side sills and a lower rear valance. The car’s dual tailpipes get a pair of new chrome oval tips and the axles are dressed with special-edition 18-in. wheels. Inside, X-Type buyers can opt for carbon-fiber materials and Alcantara seats for the first time.
