“This should put SEAT into overdrive,” A. Schleef, president of the auto maker’s executive committee, says in unveiling the ’06 Leon in prototype form at the auto show here.

A spokeswoman says it is too early to put a sales forecast on the new model.

The current Leon has been on the market for four years, a derivative of Volkswagen AG’s Golf platform.

The new 4-door, front-wheel-drive vehicle is targeted at younger buyers, with an aggressive front end and large honeycomb grille. Its 2L inline 4-cyl. engine generates 200 hp and 206 lb.-ft. (280 Nm) of torque and is mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission.
