Group Lotus taps Dany Bahar to be its new CEO, replacing Michael Kimberley, who retired in July due to ongoing health problems.
An executive committee comprised of current board members, supported by Malaysian-based owner Proton Holdings Bhd, has been handling day-to-day operations of the auto maker.
Bahar previously served as senior vice president-commercial and brand, Ferrari Automobiles SpA, where he was responsible for worldwide road-car sales and after-sales business, as well as overall road car and Formula One marketing activities, licensing and merchandising business.
In a statement, Bahar says he is looking forward to taking over the helm at the U.K.-based specialty car company.
“Lotus has a worldwide reputation for innovative engineering, with superb sports cars that lead the world in efficiency, design and dynamics,” Bahar says. “With the recent launch of the award-winning Evora, there is proof that Lotus is better placed than many to capitalize on the rapidly changing automotive market.”
Lotus recently launched its all-new Evora model under Kimberley’s direction. The rear-drive, 2+2 Evora is underpinned by an in-house developed aluminum chassis and powered by Toyota Motor Corp.’s 3.5L 276-hp V-6.
Bahar’s appointment is effective Oct. 1.
