The newly formed Thai Automobile Dealers Assn. plans to begin compiling statistics on vehicle sales in Thailand, a task now handled separately by Toyota Motor Thailand Co. Ltd. and Isuzu Motors Co. (Thailand) Ltd.

‘’We have plans to collect the industry data to ensure the accuracy of automobile sales, since we are more closely associated with sales and consumers,’’ says Songphol Chantes, Mercedes-Benz dealer and TADA’s new chairman.

Toyota Thailand was the first to compile industry figures, but Isuzu Thailand began to gather its own statistics after disputing Toyota’s data. The two auto makers’ figures for the pickup-truck segment rarely match, as one uses wholesale deliveries and the other utilizes retail sales.

Mercedes dealer Wasant Photipimpanont, a TADA advisor, says having the new group gathering industry data will make the information more accurate.

‘’It will take a little bit of time to set up everything before compiling the data,’’ he says.

Songphol says TADA aims to become the industry’s authority on gathering data, solving consumer problems related to vehicles and acting as a liaison with the government.
