TURIN – The upcoming all-wheel-drive Mercedes C-Class will require a new front suspension.

Seems the C-Class’s much-touted 3-link system doesn't leave sufficient space for front driveshafts. In its place come a pair of humble MacPherson struts and redesigned lower control arms and new steering knuckles. Even the steering rack has to be moved slightly to the rear.

It is unclear what the modifications will cost or whether DaimlerChrysler AG brass were aware such extensive changes would be needed when they approved the AWD program for the C-Class, which undergoes a refresh for ’04.
