Randy Dorton of Hendrick Motor-sports in Harrisburg, NC, was awfully candid when he spoke Tuesday at the U-M Management Briefing Seminars. Mr. Dorton says information doesn't flow that freely in-house about his operation's collaborative product-process when it comes to engine development. He said his slide presentation would be brief and there would be no handouts.
Mr. Dorton talked briefly about a new manifold without giving any information about how it was developed and what made it perform better, other than it's about one-half inch taller than the manifold it replaced. He then ended his presentation by showing the last five laps of the Diehard 500 in Taladega, FL, won by Jeff Gordon, as he quietly stepped down from the podium and took his seat.
