SEAT Cuts CO2 With New Ibiza Ecomotive

Ecomotive achieves 64 mpg and best-in-class CO2 emissions with 1.4L diesel, SEAT says.

MADRID – SEAT SA rolls out an updated Ibiza Ecomotive it says delivers a best-in-class emissions rating.

The revamped Ecomotive, part of SEAT’s recently launched fourth-generation Ibiza range, achieves 98 g/km of carbon dioxide – or 64 mpg (3.7 L/100 km) – with its new 80-hp 1.4L TDI turbodiesel engine. The diesel is equipped with an exhaust-gas recirculation valve and particulate filter.

The Ecomotive is the only vehicle in SEAT’s range coupling an 80-hp engine and air-conditioning system.

SEAT optimized the diesel’s electronic management system and cut overall vehicle weight 22 lbs. (10 kg) to maximize fuel economy. The Ecomotive, at 2,522 lbs. (1,144 kg), weighs 154 lbs. (70 kg) less than the standard Ibiza.

Body aerodynamics have been improved thanks to a redesigned front end and the addition of rear and front spoilers and rear-wheel deflectors. The grille has been modified and now is closed completely, with the lower grille designed to redirect some air away from the engine compartment to reduce drag.

The result is an improvement in the drag coefficient to 0.30 from 0.33 for the outgoing model.

The new Ibiza Ecomotive reaches a top speed of 110 mph (177 km/h), accelerates from 0-62 mph (100 km/h) in 12.9 seconds, covers 0.6 miles (1 km) in 34.7 seconds and accelerates from 50-75 mph (80-120 km/h) in fifth gear in 13.3 seconds.

The new model comes with antilock brakes, electronic suspension controls and traction and hill-hold controls. Options include a backup sensor, cruise control, air conditioning and cornering fog lamps.

The Ecomotive is available in 5-door and sport coupe versions.
