GENEVA – Skoda Auto a.s. reveals the production version of its new Roomster MPV (multipurpose vehicle) at the auto show here.
Based on the Roomster concept unveiled at the 2003 Frankfurt auto show, the street version is Skoda's fourth model range, joining the Fabia, Octavia and Superb.
While the Czech Republic auto maker’s current cars are based on parent Volkswagen AG’s underpinnings, Skoda combined modules from the Octavia and Fabia to create the Roomster. The MPV will go on sale this summer.
"We plan to manufacture 15,000 Roomsters in 2006," says Fred Kappler, Skoda’s member of the board responsible for sales and marketing. "For next year, we expect to sell at least 50,000 Roomsters."

Kappler says a light-commercial version of the Roomster will be added later.
Next up for Skoda will be the next-generation Fabia, which will use a Volkswagen brand platform.
Kappler also confirms the Superb, Skoda's largest model – which has not been as successful as expected, will have a successor. As with the Roomster, the second-generation Superb will use the module system instead of an existing platform.
While the current Superb is very similar to the VW Passat, the new model will have an independent design.
"The new Superb will clearly differentiate from other Volkswagen Group cars," Kappler says.
