Taiwan Researchers Near New LED for Headlamps

The new LED headlight is expected to have a lifespan that is at least 10 times longer than that of most conventional headlights.

TAIPEI – Taiwan's Automotive Research and Testing Center says it expects to complete development soon of a new light-emitting diode car headlight.

An ARTC spokesman says research is nearing completion, and mass production of the new LED could begin as early as midyear.

The new LED headlight will have a lifespan at least 10 times longer than that of most conventional headlights, the spokesman says.

It also will have the ability to achieve full brightness 330 times faster, while consuming less than half as much energy, he says.
