Electronic Throttle Control (ETC) pedal systems are a preferred technology because of their ability to enhance overall engine management while reducing the assembly costs of the accelerator pedal system. Teleflex says the benefits of electronic throttle control include: reduced vehicle emissions; enhanced fuel economy; elimination of costly complex mechanical linkages; improved vehicle packaging and serviceability; integrated cruise control and traction control. Teleflex ETC links the engine controls with two sources of electrical signals from the pedal assembly: an idle mode "go/no-go" limit switch provides a positive ideal mode signal whenever there is no driver foot pressure on the pedal. An integrated sensor provides the infinitely variable acceleration/deceleration signal based on the position of the pedal. Extensive research and development has produced a unique patented pedal design that mechanically creates the consistent pedal effort necessary for desired pedal "feel." Ward's Info No. 201
