Construction begins on a testing and analysis lab atMotor Corp.’s North American manufacturing headquarters in Erlanger, KY.
Motor Mfg. North America Inc. saw the first steel column of the $15.6 million expansion raised in late March. The 98,400-sq.-ft. (9,142-sq.-m) addition is slated to be complete in late June.
The building will serve as the auto maker’s center for parts, components and materials testing and warranty-claim analysis and will be used to help integrate suppliers into design and manufacturing processes.
“This facility will strengthen Toyota’s North American quality systems,” Gary Convis, executive vice president-TMMA says, in a release. “With our increasing North American manufacturing operations, the lab’s functions also grow.”
The auto maker’s manufacturing headquarters, which oversee Toyota’s North American production, purchasing and quality enhancement operations and employs some 850 workers, currently is preparing for the opening of plants in Baja California, Mexico, and San Antonio.
