Volkswagen AG will lay off 500 workers at its Landaben, Spain, plant, about 10% of the plant’s workforce. VW says the plant also will close for five days at year-end to reduce inventories. The plant now is scheduled to produce 244,000 Polos in 2003, 13,000 less than what was originally slated.
