Nissan to recall 1.02 mln cars over engine trouble

TOKYO, Oct 30 (Reuters) - Nissan Motor Co , Japan's third-largest auto maker, said on Thursday it would recall 1.02 million cars worldwide at an estimated cost of 15 to 16 billion yen ($138-148 million) due to a defect in the engine.

The recall covers 25 models, including its popular Sunny sedan and two cars built for Subaru-maker Fuji Heavy Industries and Mazda Motor Corp on an OEM (original equipment manufacturer) basis, manufactured between 1998 and 2003, a spokeswoman said.

There have been no reports of accidents, she said.

Shares of Nissan, owned 44.4 percent by France's Renault , were hit by the news, and were down one percent at 1,217 yen in late afternoon trade after hitting an intraday high of 1,273 yen. ($1=108.19 Yen)
