TOKYO, Jan 21 (Reuters) - Nissan Motor Co , Japan's third-biggest auto maker, will recall for repairs some 76,000 cars involving nine different models, Kyodo news agency reported on Wednesday.
In eight diesel models, the recall is due to defects in engine parts that could cause engines to stop and prevent them from being restarted. The brakes also could operate ineffectively, Kyodo quoted the company as saying in a report submitted to the Transport Ministry.
The eight models had been recalled in 2001 for different defects in engine parts.
A ninth model is being recalled due to defects in fuel tanks that could them to leak when full.
Company officials were not available for comment.
The recall targets some 55,342 cars, including Sunny cars manufactured between January 1999 and April 2002; Mazda Motor Corp.'s Familia car, which was produced by Nissan between May 1999 and December 2002; and Subaru's Leone car, also made by Nissan between June 1999 and March 2001, Kyodo said.
Also subject to the recall are Nissan's AD model produced between January 1999 and December 2002; the Serena made between January 1999 and December 2001; the Presage produced between December 1997 and May 2001; the Bassara manufactured between May 1999 and April 2001; and the Expert made between November 1998 and December 2002.
In addition, Nissan will also recall for the first time Teana cars produced between January and May in 2003.
