As soon as I mention diesel, in passenger cars that is, first resistance is the smell and perception they waive clouds of dirty exhaust through the neighbourhood! Not so I say! Yet the mention of a hybrid immediately denotes an image of change in attitude toward the environment, for the better, and diesel soon looses it's luster as a fuel saving remedy. My bet says in the long term this will allow hybrid to outpace diesel. Also, cost to repair a diesel vs a hybrid weighs in favor hybrid. Longevity? Hmmm? Still up in the air on this one. Building an affordable diesel for passenger cars - from NA mfg's - for NA driving conditions should prove an interesting study. Let's see.

The primary issue is our sudden ability to remember something from the past (That never happens when it should). People remember cars that are noise and don't start in cold weather (my area). Also, as the population continues to become more urbanized, the hybrids &/or electrics will dominate because the diesel is more appropriate for racking up highway miles. Also, as the price at the pump is higher, the real argument can be made only for someone putting on significantly more mileage each year that the average person. Um, me. Peugeot diesel hybrid for Scion xBs to make the worlds perfect taxi?
