Dartmouth College professor Victor Petrenko has developed a de-icing system for autos that heats just the ice, not the windshield. Petrenko has embedded electrodes made of indium tin oxide in a windshield and has hooked them to a power converter that takes DC current and turns it into high-frequency alternating current.
